We’ve almost started crying when we saw the all-new 2020 Mercedes-AMG CLA35 Shooting Brake. No, the wagon isn’t shockingly awful to cause tears. On the contrary, it’s damn good, but it won’t be available in North America anytime soon. Truth to be told, the German car manufacturer hasn’t confirmed the absence from the U.S. car market, yet we are sure about that because most of the people here rather drive crossovers. Still, even though there’s a really small chance to appear here, we have to say a few words about the svelte wagon:
First of all, the 2020 Mercedes-AMG CLA35 Shooting Brake gets a shockingly attractive exterior design. As expected, from the front, the wagon looks the same as the four-door coupe sibling, but the rear end is what makes it terribly attractive. The Shooting Brake sports round rear end and sleek roofline; it has been fitted with a unique lip for the rear spoiler, while the new rear diffusor welcomes a set of fat round exhaust pipes. Up front, the carmaker makes the car simple yet impressive thanks to the attractive grille, headlights, and air intakes.
At first glance, the car rides on eye-catching 18-inch wheels, which can be replaced with 19-inch rims. Still, there’s more down there since the wheels come fitted with four-piston front brake calipers. The drive becomes even wilder thanks to a unique sporty suspension and speed-sensitive electric power steering rack, while potential buyers can make the wagon even more dramatic if they decide to get optional adaptive dampers with three settings and AMG’s Track Pace data logging program that’s capable of recording more than 80 vehicle-specific data, including speed and acceleration.
The yellow fellow comes fitted with an impressive mill. Under the hood, you will find a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder producing 302 horsepower and 295 pound-feet of torque. The engine is hooked to a 4Matic all-wheel-drive system with a seven-speed dual clutch transmission. This particular AWD system uses a 50/50 front-to-rear variable torque split. The wild turbo-four moves the wagon pretty fast. Believe it or not, the 2020 Mercedes-AMG CLA35 Shooting Brake manages to accelerate up to 62 mph in just 4.9 seconds, while top speed has been limited to 155 mph.
Although really awesome, the 2020 CLA35 Shooting Brake won’t be the most potent AMG-treated wagon. No, since the automaker currently works on a model with more testosterone – the 2020 CLA45 Shooting Brake. This one is going to pump out 382 horsepower from a newly developed 2.0-liter turbocharged inline-4. A word from the street claims that there’s going to be an even spicier S version with 416 horsepower. The mighty mill will come coupled with a new 8-speed dual-clutch transmission and rear bias for the all-wheel-drive system.
Mercedes performance division hasn’t released any pricing information so far, so stay tuned.
